About Claudio

Who is Claudio

Claudio has spend 9 months over the last 6 years dancing with local Milongueros in Buenos Aires and 180 hours being trained to teach social tango by Nelida Boyer (System Camera Lenta).

Claudio's teaching will have you feeling comfortable and confidant on any dance floor including the great social Milongas in Buenos Aires.

Teaching Tango

“As a teenager, I took up various forms of dancing, from swing to rock and roll. Then the Beatles and the Stones arrived on the scene – and with it came the end of any form of dancing that included any real human contact.

Thirty-five years later, I was with my wife Diane in Barcelona during a Habanera music festival. Everybody was dancing! They were doing the rumba, the cha cha and so forth. And there I was, gazing with deep longing, on the outside but wanting to be on the inside. I decided in that instant. I turned to Diane and said: ‘I will learn to dance. I will not go to my grave without being a good dancer.’ We tried various forms of ballroom but nothing really satisfied me. ?They were just not the dance I was looking for. Then a friend finally mentioned ARGENTINE TANGO – and voila! I have never looked back.”

Claudio is now teaching tango in his preferred style: close embrace tango. At the heart of his teachings are the principles of frame, walking, and musicality. "Mastering these basics,” he notes, “is essential to anyone who is thinking of dancing with local dancers in Buenos Aires." Claudio has been dancing and training for many years, which include 10 months in Buenos Aires where he developed his current teaching style. Also, Claudio makes a yearly pilgramage to Argentina to continue with his own development. Claudio gently guides beginners through the process of learning the fundamentals, and prepares them for the social dance floor.

Claudio Bigler was the DJ (up until the end of 2003) for Vancouver's most widely attended milonga – Claude Esposito and Hazel Baxter's Tuesday evening dances at the Polish Hall (Fraser and West 23rd), although he has also worked at other such events as those organized by Gabriela Rojo (up to the year of 2003). Claudio has composed over 180 CDs. His musical flare and passion is reflected in the music he chooses, many of which originate in Buenos Aires.
